Things Are Not Always As They Appear
I’ve been receiving a lot of emails lately about how it’s apparent I’m a student of Abraham. As flattering as it is to be mentioned in such a way, I’m truly not. I read one book by Abraham-Hicks several years ago (“Ask and It is Given”) and watched a video on their website about two weeks ago. That’s pretty much it.
In my opinion, to be a student of someone, you need to read most of, if not all of, their work, attend their conferences, etc. I can’t do that with Abraham-Hicks. Personally, I find their teachings too repetitive. I’m not the kind of person who likes to hear the same thing over and over again. It drives me nuts. Just tell me once and get on with it. However, I do understand that a lot of people do need repetition. For many, it is the best way to learn and Abraham-Hicks are fabulous teachers. They have done a wonderful job getting their message out.
In terms of being a student of someone, I’m probably more of a student of Plato and Buddha because I’ve studied more of their works. I first started reading them in elementary school. Most people probably wouldn’t think of Plato as someone from whom one could learn how to manifest, but his theory of the Forms and his allegory of the cave are quite enlightening. I was first introduced to the concept of living in the present moment by Buddhism. My knowledge of manifesting stems from large ideas like those conveyed by Plato and Buddha. I’ve simply taken them and applied them to my life and how I view the world.
All of the techniques I apply to manifest my desires are the techniques I used successfully before I read that one Abraham-Hicks book. The story I tell about my life on my website, www.SecretsofManifesting.com, came about before I ever heard of Abraham-Hicks, read any book by anyone on manifesting, or even knew that the Law of Attraction had a name. I just developed the knack of getting what I want when I want it.
When people began asking me how I manifested so much and so quickly, I started to look at what I did and realized there was a pattern. Whenever there was something I desired, I did specific things that resulted in the manifestation of my desires. Once I discovered the pattern, I was finally able to tell people exactly what I did. When they did those same things, their desires manifested. I ended up putting my techniques into a book in order to make the information available to more people. It’s far easier to say, “Here, read this,” then to sit down and tell someone everything every day.
